Best Practices for Recommended Content on Instagram

Instagram has published new guidelines for producers on how to increase reach with suggested content.

Best Practices for Recommended Content on Instagram

Instagram provides new best practices for artists to follow in order to boost their chances of being recommended.

Recommendations are Instagram photographs and videos from accounts you don't follow.

Instagram's recommended material appears on the main feed, the explore feed, and the reels tab.

Instagram decides whether to recommend a piece of content based on signals such as the number and speed with which other people like, comment on, share, and save a post.

Prior interactions with a content creator, as well as other posts liked or remarked on, are taken into account.

When your material appears as a suggested photo or video, it may increase your reach and speed up audience growth.

All companies and artists who want to earn more followers want their content to be picked up by Instagram's recommendation system.

Instagram presents a list of recommended practices for users to follow in order to assist more individuals achieve that objective.

Best Practices for Instagram Recommendations

Eligibility

To begin, you must have a public account in order to be considered for recommendations. Private accounts' material will not be recommended on Instagram.

Following that, you must adhere to Instagram's suggestion standards.

Instagram has particular standards for the sorts of material it attempts to recommend in people's feeds.

Community guidelines, which govern what may and cannot be posted on Instagram, differ from recommendation guidelines.

The following content violates Instagram's recommendation guidelines:

  • Violence-related content, such as individuals fighting.
  • Content that encourages the use of regulated items, such as tobacco or vaping devices.
  • Sexually graphic or provocative content, such as images of individuals wearing see-through clothes.

Finally, you must adhere to Instagram's community rules. If you violate the community rules, Instagram will email you a warning or delete the material.

With that out of the way, let's move on to the best practices.

Recommended Practices

Instagram suggests the following effective techniques for increasing visibility via recommendations:

  • Post unique material: Rather than collecting other people's work, Instagram strives to increase the reach of producers who create their own content.
  • Make Instagram reels: a part of your content strategy to increase the chances of your content being suggested.
  • Search engine optimization: Use detailed descriptions and hashtags to increase the visibility of your content in search results. It also aids in the optimization of your bio and profile name.

Mosseri says in the video above (emphasis mine):

"The goal of recommendations is to help people find exceptional producers on Instagram that they may not be aware of." And we expect that the future of Feed will be mainly driven by recommendations, as we observe friend sharing shifting increasingly to stories and direct messages.

If we perform our job well, and I want to be clear that we aren't there yet, we will help people find outstanding artists in a way that both means people will spend more time on the platform and that the average creative will gain more reach.

And, if we're very careful, we can shift more distribution away from aggregators, who, in my opinion, now get more than their fair share of distribution on Instagram, and toward artists.

Again, I believe we can do more by focusing on small creators, because we want to be a platform where anyone can build an audience and make a living in the long run."
