Google Explains Why a Helpful Content Update Appears Quiet

Google responds to allegations that the helpful content update has had little influence on search results, reminding everyone that it is still in the works.

After one week, there is a growing agreement that the helpful content update has not resulted in any significant changes.

Reports that the upgrade is silent piqued the interest of Google's Search Liaison, Danny Sullivan, who responded in a series of tweets.

In brief, Sullivan reiterates a point made last week about the upgrade being part of a long-term effort and believes rankings should be OK for websites that create high-quality content.

Continue reading the parts below for his whole response.

Updated Content that is Beneficial A Consistent Effort

Because the objective is to optimize the signal over time, the impact of Google's helpful content update may look minor.

Sullivan elaborates:

"The update isn't finished. As previously said, it is also part of an ongoing endeavor. We'll continue to improve how it works. The direction we've provided is what SEOs and artists should be thinking about."

His response extends into a multi-part conversation, in which he goes on to emphasize that updates don't always imply major changes.

Furthermore, Sullivan believes that people who are badly impacted by the upgrade are less inclined to provide comments.

"However, updates do not always imply a big shift. You're normally alright if you have solid material...

Those who are dissatisfied with issues may be unwilling to be very loud about a change..."

Although Sullivan dismisses the notion that the helpful content upgrade would cause a significant shift in search results, it is still something SEOs and publishers should be aware of.

"As I previously stated, this useful material update is part of a continual effort. This is what SEOs and content authors should focus on. We'll keep fine-tuning and refining it. It is important, which is why we have spent so much time discussing it."

Google's helpful content upgrade should be completed next week, but we won't hear the last of it.

The helpful content update will be enhanced with a significant rollout every few months, unlike Google's core upgrades.

According to Sullivan, "incremental enhancements" would most likely become part of Google's "routine operations." That is what a continu means.

We will continue to watch and report on significant events concerning Google's useful content upgrade.
